FAQ

WHAT DOES AN INTERIOR DESIGNER OR STYLIST DO?

A designer envisions, plans and outfits spaces in a way that makes them both beautiful and functional. I balance aesthetic considerations with structural planning to reflect my clients’ lifestyle, set the desired mood, and compliment the home’s architectural features. As an interior designer I have cultivated relationships with trusted contractors, artisans, vendors and others who will also help execute the design. You may have a clear vision for your home, I can help you bring it to life within your budget while making sure it satisfies nitty-gritty considerations such as space planning and functionality.

WHAT MAKES BILLIE BLOOM DIFFERENT

CONSULTATION

Option A: I will meet you in your home (preferred) or at a chosen location to discuss the details of your design needs and determine how I can help bring your vision to life. Not entirely sure what you want? That’s ok too! That’s what the consultation is for and we will discover your goals together! Once the appointment is confirmed, there will be a one hour consultation fee.

What’s included:

·           A walk through of your specific space(s)

·           Furniture layout and space planning ideas for rooms

·           Defining and prioritizing budget (renovations or furnishings or both)

·           Paint color and/or wallpaper ideas and selections

·           Window Treatment recommendations

·           Lighting plan suggestions

·           Styling tips and ideas for vignettes

·           A follow up email with next steps

Option B:  If you’re on a tight budget, don’t assume that hiring a designer is beyond reach. I am happy to arrange a few hours of consulting or I will help you find furnishings and decorative accents for an hourly rate. I call this, the “let’s go shopping and pick things out for your home, together” option!

DESIGN

Once I have the information I need to get started, such as measurements, inspiration photos, Pinterest boards, etc. I will begin designing your space. First, I start with the layout and inspiration imagery that are illustrative of my creative intent. Then, I bring the layout to life with design boards and 3D options for color palettes, furnishings, finishings, fixtures, etc. It is important to me that before selecting and purchasing materials, that we’re collectively aligned on an approved design concept.

DETAILS

Once a design concept is approved, I will detail it out. This includes specification of decorative materials and selecting the actual items that bring the approved design to life. Depending on your specific project scope, this process may involve sourcing and purchasing fixtures, flooring, slabs, paint, furniture, lighting, window treatments, appliances, etc. To ensure all projects are executed as intended, I will purchase and make arrangements for all materials associated with the design on your behalf by partnering with a host of trusted vendor partners.

EXECUTION

Once all details are finalized and all items are ordered, I will begin executing all aspects of the installation and final styling. On renovation or new construction jobs, this will include overall construction project management and coordination with your contractor. Rather than piecemeal installations as items deliver, I’ll schedule a day (or multiple days depending on project scale) to install and transform your space all at once.

TIMING

Depending on the scope of the project and your specific goals, we will work together to figure out a realistic time line that works for you, me and the vendors. Because I charge per project and not per hour, there is no rush for you to decide based on wanting to get the project done as fast as possible. I want to work with you until you are thrilled with the outcome! There is no time limit for your happiness.

COST

Finally, if you’re on a tight budget, don’t assume that hiring a designer is beyond reach. I will be happy to arrange a few hours of consulting or will help you find furnishings and decorative accents for an hourly rate or a set fee.

All depending on the scope of your project. I differ from many other interior designers in that I do not up-charge the typical 25-30% fee on furniture, hardware, lighting, etc. Whatever savings I receive from my designer discount, usually up to 20%, I pass on to you! My role as your designer is to help you LOVE your home, not gouge you on prices. I genuinely love what I do and I am grateful to be working with YOU!

PAYMENT

I will ask for 50% of the payment up front on retainer. Upon completion of the project, the other half will be due. As for the cost of the items purchased for the project, I will bill you monthly for the items we select and use for your project. An itemized bill and copies of receipts will be shared as proof of what you’re paying for. Again, everything will be completely transparent! Venmo or personal check are accepted.
